KishHealth Emergency Medical Services
Kishwaukee Community Hospital is the EMS Resource Hospital in Region 1 in DeKalb County, responsible for overseeing, training, and critiquing all emergency providers. In this role, the hospital establishes all the direct patient care protocols for pre-hospital care and monitors this care through radio communication as ambulances are en route to the hospital. Because it’s a resource hospital, Kish Hospital has a system called KishHealth EMS System, which provides training and continuing education for pre-hospital providers and teaches EMT and paramedic courses for Kishwaukee College.
Members of the KishHealth EMS System are fire departments for Cortland, DeKalb, Hinckley, Malta, Maple Park, Paw Paw, Sandwich, Somonauk, Sycamore, Waterman, and Genoa-Kingston, and police departments for Genoa and Northern Illinois University. Private ambulance members are A-TEC Ambulance, Inc. and Ridge Ambulance Service. Valley West Community Hospital is an associate hospital of KishHealth EMS.
Kishwaukee Community Hospital is designated by the American Heart Association as a provider of CPR, First Aid, and Advanced Life Support courses. The KishHealth EMS Training Center is located at KishHealth System Building, 2727 Sycamore Road, DeKalb.
