Caregiver side of cancer presented
May 1, 2007Cancer patients and their partners are invited to an educational program and appetizer reception Friday, May 11, 3:30 p.m., at Johnny’s Charhouse, 1950 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore.
Dave Balch, author of Cancer for Two and founder of The Patient/Partner Project, will speak about what he learned during his wife’s successful nine-month battle against breast cancer.
Balch is on a mission to help partners of cancer patients as they walk that fine line of helping their loved one through a difficult illness while trying to cope with it themselves.
With empathy and humor, he will share his inspiring stories, provide specific suggestions for coping and help patients and partners realize they can handle more than they think they can.
The appetizer reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. Balch will speak at 4 p.m. The program, sponsored by Amgen, is free but seating is limited. Please register in advance by calling Kishwaukee Cancer Care Center at 815.756.5255.
