Donations Enhance Technology at Kish Hospital
October 14, 2009

Patients at Kishwaukee Community Hospital are benefiting every day from the generous support of community donors through the Kishwaukee Health Foundation. Most recently, the Diagnostic Imaging department at Kish Hospital received a state-of-the-art bone densitometry system as a direct result of the generosity of local individuals and families who have given to the Health Foundation.

The purchase was made possible from donations to Kishwaukee Health Foundation’s Friends for Life KCH100 Fund. Funds were utilized to purchase the Lunar Prodigy Advance Bone Densitometer from GE Healthcare in order to help physicians improve patient outcomes in the fight against osteoporosis. The new DXA (Dual energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scanner was recently installed and patient appointments are now being scheduled.

Jodi Haeffner, interim director and manager of Diagnostic Imaging at Kish Hospital is proud to announce availability of bone density testing at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

Jodi Haeffner, RT(R)(M), interim director and manager of Diagnostic Imaging at Kish Hospital said, “The Diagnostic Imaging department is very grateful to Kishwaukee Health Foundation and its donors. With the Health Foundation’s help, we are now able to provide state-of-the-art bone density analysis to the community.”

“Thanks to our generous donors, bone density is a new service we can offer our patients at Kish Hospital. We are incredibly grateful for the gifts we receive in order to improve patient care,” said Renee Ellingson, executive director of the Health Foundation.

Over the past 30 years, Friends for Life donors have contributed over $2.2 million to assist Kish Hospital with funding capital projects, purchasing equipment and technology, and building an endowment.

Some of the past items funded by Friends for Life KCH100, include a fetal monitor for Kish’s Maternity Suites department, equipment for Cardiac Rehabilitation, operating room equipment, and last year a portable ultrasound machine for the Emergency Department, which is saving lives every day by allowing doctors to diagnose problems more quickly.

Kishwaukee Health Foundation will also be purchasing infection control stations for Kish Hospital with donations from the community. Respiratory Etiquette Stations make hand sanitizer, tissues, and masks available to visitors, helping control the spread of germs.

With the help of philanthropy, Kishwaukee Health Foundation assists KishHealth System in providing quality programs and services at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Valley West Community Hospital, and DeKalb County Hospice. Donations enable the Health Foundation to bring to our area enhanced technology, services, and new programs that would not be possible without the generous help of donors.
