Physical Therapist to shave her head for charity
April 28, 2009
Michele Wylde, Physical Therapist/Certified Athletic Trainer for Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Sycamore, is getting ready to go bald for a cause!
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is conducting a head shaving event to honor a local child named Grace W., a 16-year-old patient with osteosarcoma, and cancer research. Of the money raised in the DeKalb event, approximately 75-90% will go to funding grants toward finding a cure for Grace and the additional proceeds will go towards funding research of other childhood cancers. The event will be held on Friday, May 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. at O'Leary's Irish Pub and Grill, 260 East Lincoln Highway, in Dekalb.
Wylde said, “I am shaving my head, simply to help someone in need. So often we find ourselves saying ‘I wish I could do something.’” Well, this is my opportunity to help Grace and other children battling cancer. I feel that this will be a wonderful experience helping to fund research to find cures for children with cancer. I will also be donating the length of my hair to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the U.S. and Canada under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. If you would like to help, please help me raise funds toward helping these children conquer cancer.”
