Auxiliary ball marks 20th anniversary
October 21, 2010
Save the date now for the Emerald celebration of Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s Snow Ball. The gala event will be Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in the ballroom at NIU’s Holmes Student Center.
The Snow Ball will raise money for healthcare career scholarships and the new Cancer Center. Following an elegant buffet dinner, music will be provided by Green Thirteen, a four-piece dance band.
“There are two big reasons why this event is “not to be missed,” said Paula Coon, Ball chair.
“First, we are celebrating the 20th or Emerald anniversary of the hospital ball. Second, this will be the last ball hosted by the Auxiliary. It will be a special night of memories and acknowledgements as we transition to a new tradition of supporting the advancement of healthcare for our community,” Coon said.
KishHealth Foundation will take over sponsorship of an annual event starting in 2012.
“To better manage our human and financial resources and to better meet the needs of the health system, we decided it was time for a new approach that will support Kish Hospital, Valley West Community Hospital, the Community Cares Clinic, and DeKalb County Hospice,” said Renee Ellingson, KishHealth Foundation executive director. Plans for the new event will be announced sometime in 2011.
“For now, the Auxiliary and the Health Foundation are focusing our attention on making this final Auxiliary ball truly a night to remember. We hope new supporters and anyone who has supported the event in the past will play a role in the Snow Ball’s curtain call,” said Paula von Ende, Volunteer Services director for the hospital.
The hospital ball, which began in 1991, has raised nearly $300,000 for healthcare scholarships alone over the past 20 years, and the Auxiliary, in total since 1977, has raised $1.8 million to improve patient care.
“Because of the community’s generous support of the ball and other Auxiliary activities, the Auxiliary has been able to establish an endowment fund to support future scholarships,” said Vicke Heins, Auxiliary president. “This endowment fund, plus other Auxiliary fundraisers, will allow us to continue to award scholarships for years to come,” Heins said.
