Kish hospital's diagnostic imaging receives accreditation for MRI
August 31, 2011
Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Department has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
In addition, Kish Hospital recently received its three-year reaccreditation status in mammography from the ACR. All facilities providing mammography must be certified by the FDA under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). Developed in 1987 by the ACR Task Force on Breast Cancer, the accreditation program is the country’s first and the largest for mammography. The program is directed by radiologists and medical physicists on the Committee on Mammography Accreditation of the ACR Commission on Quality and Safety.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
The accomplishment of earning these ACR accreditations demonstrates Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s commitment to delivering quality patient care. For more information, visit www.kishhospital.org/diagnosticimaging.
